Blue and Body

Welcome to BLUE AND BODY: Navigating Intimacy Through Denim, an exploration of connection, resilience, and the red threads that bind us. This project traces the emotional and physical narratives stitched into denim, revealing how the fabric we wear can mirror the fabric of our relationships.

We enter relationships carrying past experiences: frayed memories, faded marks, and tender repairs. Denim becomes a canvas for these histories: it holds the imprint of wear, the texture of time, and the evidence of survival. Inspired by the East Asian red thread of fate theory, BLUE AND BODY imagines each garment as a meeting point of destined souls, tied, tangled, and tender.

Through handcraft and experimentation, I carve intimacy into the surface of second-hand denim. Using a Dremel tool to distress and etch patterns of wear, I mimic the emotional erosion and repair that defines love. Topstitching becomes a language of connection, with thread tracing the gestures of care, pain, and healing. The process honors both the durability of denim and the vulnerability of the human form it hugs.

The collection also pays homage to the sensual storytelling of iconic denim ads, where touch, closeness, and desire play out in tightly framed bodies. My garments are designed not just for one body, but for two, constructed to envelop, connect, and move with a shared rhythm. They speak to the emotional duality of relationships: the need to hold and to be held.

BLUE AND BODY invites viewers to reflect on love’s textures: its abrasions, warmth, tension, and repair. It’s about the denim that softens with every wear and the people who meet us where we’ve frayed. This is a story about bodies and threads, stitched not just to endure, but to feel.
