Gaitas

I was selected to design the uniforms for the "Gaitas" competition in Caracas, Venezuela in 2019. Even after my family emigrated to the US, I was still chosen to lead this project for Colegio Cristo Rey, the school I attended until I was 16. The concept was sisterhood. I took inspiration from marching bands , sororities and fraternities.

I chose the color red to stand out in comparison to the rest of the teams in the competition. The sequins and beads were incorporated to bring attention to the details of the uniform at night with the reflection of the stage lights. I designed the uniforms independently and received help with the construction of the garments from Venezuelan designer Rafael Raenrra.
